LF-ULD is battery-powered and primarily consists of an electronic module and a signal transmitter. Protected by a cylindrical, water- and weatherproof housing, the LF-ULD withstands extreme environmental conditions, high G-impact shock, and deep-sea pressure up to 6096 m.
The LF-ULD is activated by immersion into fresh- or salt water. The activation effects the emission of a defined acoustic signal (8.8 kHz). The battery capacity is dimensioned in such a way that the LF-ULD can send this acoustic signal for a duration of at least 90 days. The expiration date of the battery (marked on the label of the battery packing bag) has to be 6, or more than 6 years in the future, to use the full battery life cycle of the battery within the LF-ULD.
The battery is designed to meet the performance specifications of ETSO-C200a, ETSO-C142a, RTCA DO-227 and RTCA DO-347. The LF-ULD is located in theΒ aft or bulk cargo compartment behind the vertical sidewall panel.
LHT’s modification comprises the installation of a mounting structure and adapter plate as well as the installation of LF-ULD. and the Installation time is estimated at 4 hours for one mechanic; all parts and fasteners required for the installation are supplied as a kit. This ensures the opportunity for efficient planning and material management. Manual variations are issued to ensure continuing airworthiness.
