An Air Atlanta Europe Boeing 747-400 freighter on behalf of Air Atlanta Icelandic, registration 9H-WFF performing flight CC-1007 from Hong Kong (China) to Dubai Al Maktoum (United Arab Emirates), was climbing out of Hong Kong’s runway 25L when the crew stopped the climb at 9000 feet due to an EICAS gear disagree and gear tilt message. The aircraft dumped fuel and returned to Hong Kong for a safe landing on runway 25R about 80 minutes after departure.
When faced with a gear retraction issue, the flight crew would typically follow specific procedures outlined in the aircraft’s manuals to troubleshoot and address the problem. It is crucial for the crew to communicate with air traffic control, assess the situation, and make decisions based on safety considerations.
In cases where the landing gear cannot be retracted, the aircraft may need to return to the departure airport or divert to another suitable airport for further inspection and maintenance. Maintenance personnel would then investigate the root cause of the issue and perform the necessary repairs to ensure the safe operation of the aircraft.
The safety and well-being of the passengers and crew are always the top priority in such situations, and airlines have established protocols in place to handle gear retraction issues efficiently and safely.
