A Malta Air Boeing 737-800 on behalf of Ryanair, registration 9H-QCB performing flight FR-8826 from Brindisi to Turin (Italy) with 184 people on board, had lined up runway 31 for departure when the right hand engine (CFM56) caught fire prompting the crew to shut the engines down and initiate an emergency evacuation via slides. There were no reported injuries.

A replacement Boeing 737-8 MAX registration 9H-VUW reached Turin with a delay of about 5:10 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Brindisi about 16 hours later.
