All modern passenger airliners are incredibly safe as they have multiple redundancies and fail safes. Even the planes with the worst track records in history are somewhat safer than we think.
Judging by the flight hours, neither aircraft has seen enough service to produce an accurate result for us to compare, however they have both flown millions of flights without encountering fatal accidents of any kind.
Most accidents occur when a model is in the early stages of its service life. For example the B737 MAX and the DC10 both had major flaws with their designs resulting in several accidents in their first few years of service. Neither the 787 nor the A380 had any major flaws which again shows the solid designs of those two models.
The only flaws that we can recall off the top of my head is the battery stability issue of the 787 and the Trent 900 engines which had fail at a higher rate than your average
Even the notorious DC10, plagued by some of the worst disasters in the world isn’t considered to be dangerous. One fatal accident is to be expected, in 10 million departures. Don’t forget the statistics used include the pre-upgrade DC10s with the failure prone cargo doors and avionics.
