A hydraulic accumulator is a pressure storage reservoir in which hydraulic fluid is held under pressure by an external source of energy. The external source can be a spring or a compressed gas.

Description:
A hydraulic accumulator is a device, typically made of steel, which is divided into two separate chambers. One chamber is charged to a high pressure with air or nitrogen, while the other chamber contains fluid at the system operating pressure

Function:

Dampen pressure surges in the hydraulic system caused by actuation of a unit and the effort of the pump to maintain pressure at a preset level.

Aid or supplement the power pump when several units are operating at once by supplying extra power from its accumulated, or stored, power.
