
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, IndiGo flight 6E2142 from Delhi to Srinagar encountered a severe hailstorm mid-flight, resulting in significant damage to the aircraft’s nose cone. The Airbus A321, carrying 227 passengers, including Members of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, faced intense turbulence during its approach to Srinagar.

The unexpected weather conditions prompted the pilot to declare an emergency with Srinagar Air Traffic Control. Despite the challenging circumstances, the flight landed safely at Srinagar Airport at 6:30 PM local time. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

Passengers described the experience as terrifying, with reports of panic and screaming onboard. Videos shared on social media captured the chaos inside the cabin, showing visibly shaken passengers.
The aircraft has been declared “Aircraft on Ground” (AOG) and is undergoing technical inspection and repairs before returning to service. IndiGo confirmed the incident and reassured that passenger comfort and safety remain a top priority.
This incident underscores the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions during air travel and highlights the effectiveness of quick response measures taken by the flight crew.
