A Russian SSJ-100 plane caught fire at Antalya airport in Turkey on Sunday, Turkish media reported. All the occupants on board were evacuated safely by emergency responders.
The Azimuth Airlines Sukhoi Superjet-100 aircraft (RA-89085) from Sochi, Russia was landing at Antalya airport on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast when a fire broke out in one of its engines.
The fire alert on the aircraft, which landed in difficult weather conditions, was given after it stopped on the runway. ARFF and airport teams quickly intervened in the incident.
Fire crews arrived on the scene in a short time and began extinguishing the fire. Due to the incident, the airport runway was temporarily closed.
All landings at Antalya airport were suspended until 3 a.m. (0000 GMT) on Monday, while departing planes were sent to the airport’s military runway, the ministry said.
All 89 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated from the 100-seat Sukhoi Superjet plane that arrived from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.
