On A380, Door M1 slides integrate an extension of around 3.8 meter that enables evacuation of the passengers in different sill height situations resulting from various accident cases of the A/C. This extension is folded and speed-laced at the slide bottom.
The inflation of the extension is automatically initiated by the Local Door Controller when the A/C pitch angle is greater than 2.5°. This signal comes from the ADIRU, or from the local Pitch Attitude Sensors in case of no ADIRU signal available.
In the event of either the A/C pitch angle has changed after deployment or the extension has not deployed although needed, a SLIDE NOT READY indication is displayed to the cabin crew on the Door and Slide Indication Panel (DSIP) to stop the evacuation path at this door. This signal comes from the Slide Extension Switch that monitors if the extension is deployed or not.
