The crew of a THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A350-900, registration TC-LGR, was directing the aircraft to JFK Airport in New York approximately 3.5 hours after the captain (59) became incapacitated while the aircraft was en route at FL390 over Greenland (Denmark) on flight TK-204 from Seattle, WA (USA) to Istanbul (Turkey). When they arrived, the captain was pronounced dead.

“The captain pilot of our Airbus 350 type aircraft, operating the flight number TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul, with the tail registration TC-LGR, fainted during the flight,” the airline claimed. The cockpit crew, which consisted of the captain and one co-pilot, opted to make an emergency landing when our captain’s first medical intervention failed. Sadly, our captain passed away before to the landing. The 59-year-old captain has been employed by Turkish Airlines since 2007. On March 8, 2024, he underwent a periodic health examination at the Aviation Medical Center, which has been approved by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation. No health issues that would have prevented him from working were found.

Our aircraft has chosen to land in New York, and we have arranged for our passengers to travel home via the New York station. We at Turkish Airlines pray for God’s blessings on our captain and patience for his bereaved family, coworkers, and loved ones.”
