The Boeing 747 is a wide-body passenger jet that was designed by Boeing in 1965 and first flown in 1969. It is one of the most iconic and successful airliners in history, with over 1,500 aircraft built and operated by airlines around the world. The Boeing 747 has a low wing design for below reasons:

  • A low wing provides more space for the passengers and cargo in the fuselage, which increases the capacity and profitability of the aircraft. The low wing also allows for easier access to the doors and windows of the aircraft.
  • A low wing also provides more ground effect, which is an increase in lift and decrease in drag when flying close to the ground. This helps the Boeing 747 to take off and land at lower speeds and shorter distances, which improves safety and performance.
  • A low wing also has a dihedral angle, which means that the wings slope upward from the root to the tip. This helps to increase the roll stability and reduce the tendency of the aircraft to roll in response to yaw. The dihedral angle improves the handling qualities and comfort of the Boeing 747.

So the B-52 and the Boeing 747 have different wing designs because they have different purposes and requirements. The B-52 is a high wing aircraft that is optimized for bombing missions, while the Boeing 747 is a low wing aircraft that is optimized for passenger transport.
